The Baltic Sea is incredibly busy. There was not a single day we didn't see other ships.
Docking in Helsinki.
Here comes that P&O ship again.
Two Baltic ferries loading up. These are not cruise ships.
Helsinki is a very industrial port.
Not sure what this was but I think it's just a very modern water tower.
I want the ones over the water. Cool architecture.
Kind of peaceful. Almost balmy.
Lots of activity.
On the ship parked next to us.
Busy!
But the Finnish souvenir lady is out and about.
The P&O ship backing in.
Tie us up!
We are off and downtown. The local marketplace. Wish we could have stayed here more than 15 minutes.
Double headed eagle.
On a great big obelisk.
Sailing ship on left, ferry on right.
A big church. Got to go inside but first some outside pics.
At least the weather was perfect.
Nice doors.
Nice dome.
Nice altar!
The view from outside.
We were headed here next. Another church.
Kathleen and Helsinki.
The harbor.
More church. Different angle.
Statues on the way to the other church.
The other church in the main square.
Lots of steps.
Great columns.
Kathleen and Renda waited in the sun.
Statuary on the church.
Next door to the church.
Since it is still being used as a church we could not go in this one.
Our group gathers.
Looking back to the square.
Looking up at the entire church and steps.
Man singing opera. He wasn't half bad. He wasn't half good either.
Statues in the square.
At least we were enjoying the sunshine.
Mike takes Penny & Jim's picture.
Check out the beard on the policeman. My kind of dress code.
I really wish we had just taken this map and gone on our own.
3 naked guys hammering. Dangerous!
City Hall (I think)
Helsinki Art Museum
Statue in front of art museum
Kind of a cool building shot from the bus. We can't get our guide to stop talking or to stop.
Another Olympic Stadium???
What is with these guides and their Olympic stadiums.
Paavo Nurmi monument. The most famous Finn of the modern era. A long distance runner.
The Sibelius monument.
Sibelius himself.
Actually pretty cool if we hadn't stayed here for half an hour.
Loved the moronic tourists sticking their head inside the tubes.
Great way to sell veggies. Reminds me of Venice.
The farmer's market in Helsinki.
Finally at the market but since we can't take food on the ship, why are we here?
More double-headed eagle
For Michelle
Another store for Michelle, Kathleen's daughter, who is really into design.
Downtown shopping street through the bus window. I wish they had taken us there.
