Summit is 90,940 tons of classy cruising. She is 965 feet long and has a beam of 105 feet. All this lets her carry 2158 passengers on her year-round cruises to Bermuda, the Caribbean and of course New England and Canada at her maximum speed of 24 knots.
Summit is part of the Millenium class and was launched on October 1, 2001. From reading recent reviews, she is barely showing her age. She is the third of the four Millienium class being built after Millenium and Infinity but before her sister Constellation.
Some of the time (about half the year) Summit is captained by the only female captain in the fleet, Kate McCue. Hopefully we will get to meet her.
Summit's dining choices included alternative restaurants Qsine and Tuscan Grille as well as suite eatery Luminae, Aqua restaurant Blu as well as Sushi on 5 and the ever popular, main dining room. For those who are looking for healthier fare, there is also the AquaSpa cafe.
We have always loved the cabins on Millennium class ships, especially the storage. And we especially love the aft cabins with their HUGE verandas.
Two weeks after we disembark, Summit will head to the Caribbean where she spends the winter based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Not sure what will happen this year with the devastation in PR from Maria.
Nothing quite like a sunny day on the Sunrise Deck.
Something tells me this pool may not get much use on our cruise. October in New England could be a little cool.
If you have never been on a Millennium class ship, the Thallosotherapy pool is a highlight. Like a giant jacuzzi with benches it sits in the Solarium right behind the spa. And there are two actual hot tubs as well. It is supposed to be a kids-free zone. This is also the home of the AquaSpa cafe.
Spend some time here on sea days or early in the morning on port days.
A theater just as good as any at sea with lots of great shows to see. Either that or more martinis.
The Sunset Bar on the Sunrise deck behind the Oceanview Cafe (the buffet) where we hope you will all join us at sailaway from Port Liberty. We haven't sailed from there before so we are looking forward to a different view of Lady Liberty than we have seen before.
One of the best places on the ship...when they aren't playing thump-thump music (Sorry for the editorial view there but it's my biggest pet peeve about X.) Still a great place to meet after (or before) dinner.
